Hiring a broker service to move you? better read this first!

By |2022-06-10T17:12:47-04:00April 6, 2018|Resources & Tips|

For many of us we will move at least twice in our lifetime and when we move we want to select a mover that is honest and professional and will not gouged us on the moving cost. In this article here you will discover why not to use a broker to select a mover for your move. Thru the many years of working at this company I’ve come across and heard some stories from our customers whom have used brokers before and ended up with a very bad experience from their move. Every day online I see new websites popping up that are not moving companies but broker services that will select a mover for you in order to get you moved. Some of these websites advertise that you submission goes to these movers. Here is some good reasons why to avoid them and deal directly with a moving company thru their website and not thru a middle man.

  1. It’s best to select a mover whom is a real moving company that actually has the trucks and professionals to do a move whether you are moving local or long distance.
  2. Don’t deal with an online website that just gets your information by having you go thru a lot of questions because in most cases these sites pass your information onto spammers or other site owners that will flood your inbox with offers and emails that you don’t want. Fact, Many of our clients that we move have told us about this as this happened to them being flooded with spam emails that they didn’t want.
  3. If you select a website that says we will submit your information to 6 companies to send you a quote chances are it will be a lot more then 6 companies that call you or email you with the need for further information and you don’t ant to be tied down to answering 30 phone calls or 50 emails from that website you went to just to do a simple task and and ended up get flooded with calls and your inbox full of emails you don’t want. Most of these websites will state that your submission is sent to 6 movers and in reality it is 30.
  4. The price quoted confusion!. Basically you will get one quote thru that broker site but when you have a brokers site select a mover for you that mover will most likely quote another price and that you don’t want. As all of when we are looking for a moving quote we want the quote in writing and everything that will be done to the move in writing. This includes services, estimated pick up and delivery dates etc.
  5. Play it safe: The best advice is to select a mover that has their own website, their own trucks, and their own professionals to move your items and then has great reviews from other clients on the experience they had with that mover. The mover that has everything quote” In House” is the best choice. You are dealing with the actual moving company not a broker or some broker site that says they you have to select from 6 movers by typing in your zip code or city or origin.

In the end the choice is yours as the consumer and these tips are written in this article to help you make the best decision when you are moving and to help you steer away from pitfalls. Resources for apartment renters.

By |2022-06-10T17:14:25-04:00January 18, 2018|Resources & Tips|

Resources for Apartment renters in Pennsylvania by B Rogers at ecm.tempurl.host a Philadelphia Moving Company. I myself part of the Eastern Connection Movers team thought that I would write this post in our blog here to give my fellow apartment renters a resource to go to on Moving into your new apartment, moving out and of course landlord and tenants rights as what they can do and what they can’t do to you as a tenant.

In each of the many moves my company has done we hear cases every now and then where a tenant was done wrong by a landlord or the other way around so I thought that this would be a great handy post to the resources information at the very opening of this post entitled ” Resources for Apartment renters in Pennsylvania” and of course these many laws and rules apply in most cases to renters in other states as well I’m sure and for certain. The resources pages that I have linked to talk about:

1: Title 68 of Pennsylvania renters law

2: Deposits and escrow

3: Real property

4: discrimination

5: Leases and agreements

6: Official state codes to the laws in all (50 states):

7: If you have a claim how to get free legal representation and evaluation of your claim.

The best part of this post and the resource is that even if you aren’t a resident of Pennsylvania you still can get the information on any state you may be a renter in. Further, this resources comes from a very informative site that even attorneys go to when they need to find what they are looking for on various codes and laws. If you can’t afford an attorney thru this resource you might be able to get free representation if you are having housing problems associated with your lease.

Some other helpful tips to remember :

8): Always check out the owners of the apartments where you are planning to move into. You do an online search or search local county or city records to see if there were any violations in the past and ask a current resident of how it is there before you make a final decision to take that apartment or find something else.

Some important questions to ask are.

9): Is there any insect infestations and has there been any in the past and when?

10): How about the plumbing and heating in the building as to if they have had any problems in the past and when?
11): How about the air conditioning system?

12): How about the parking in the evening is it congested ?

13): If there ever was a problem and you needed a repair done how long did it take for a repair person to show up?

14): Ask a current resident if there has ever been any crime or break in at the apartment building and when if any did it happen?

It is a good idea to be really informed about moving into a new apartment building because the better you are informed the better decision of where to move to will be helpful to you in the long run.

Cheap effective cleaning tips for homeowners with pets.

By |2022-06-10T17:15:08-04:00January 5, 2018|Resources & Tips|

For many of us we have the family pets that we live with everyday and for some its a task to keep your residence clean and smelling fresh. If you have cats this is even tougher to keep your rugs clean even thou the best remedy is to have wooden floors as that is the easiest clean up because its a simple sweep and mop. However, rugs are a different story and in this tip I’ll show you how to clean your rugs that won’t knock the air out of your wallet and you will no get bamboozled. This tip is great especially if you are selling your home and are in the process of using a moving company to move you and you must get rid of the smell and must have a clean place to show or move out of as this can be a factor if your place should sell.

The way to clean your rugs cheap is not to spend a fortune or even hire a rug cleaner however, you need to first obtain a good Steam Vac and then purchase Armour and Hammer’s brand ” Double Duty pet deodorizer” along with Ajax lemon brand dish washing liquid and place about a table spoon of the Armour Hammer into the solution side of the Steam Vac and then add about a table spoon of the Ajax lemon scent liquid as the Ajax will give the Solution the scent you need for the rug and the Armour Hammer will clean the rugs and you will see the results instantly. Don’t forget to add hot water to the solution side and fill it up as for the water side add hot water. Turn on your vac and use the wash side first then click to the Rinse side button and watch the machine just pick up the dirt . Believe me this cheap Store bought stuff is cheaper then Rug cleaner from the same store you buy the Ajax and Armour and Hammer and you get much better results. Cleaning out a relative’s home after death

By |2022-06-10T17:17:55-04:00December 9, 2017|Resources & Tips|

My father knew that his life was coming to and end after decades he had accumulated a vast number of tools in his garage and had even started his own automotive restoration business having done many antique cars over his years as I remember and had collected many cars. Recently he started to sell off some of his antique cars to enjoy his last days. My father indicated to me that he would take care of everything in his will and we left it at that. About a year or so later he finally died and everything was for us to sort out. We found out after his death that he had no will and this left us in quite a hole that we had to dig out of with a spoon. I may add that I have a sister whom had to team up with me to get this all sorted out .

First, we had to sort out the trash from the treasures including the home furnishings that were in his house and the garage full of all of his tools. Some of the tasks we had to jump thru we would like to share these with you the reader of this article.

First, we had to go thru the entire house looking for any hidden documents as we suggest to you if this is a situation you ever have to go thru is to check all areas of the house including looking carefully thru all books especially the pages of books because I’ve heard of stories were people whom have died And had a habit of placing money money in and between the pages of books in case they were robbed as a thief would never think of looking in the pages of books on a book shelf for money. Titles to cars might be hidden in some books or other deeds or who knows what you might find. We did find money in a few of the books and some other documents. Look every place even behind items that you might not suspect could be a hiding place.

By looking in these places you might find.

Home Owner’s policy: If you plan to sell the home you will need to keep this document until the day of the settlement /sale of the home.

Will: Look for the will any updated ones

Insurance: This could be a private policy or one purchased thru an employer.

Bank Accounts: Carefully read as some banks combined all accounts into one statement.

Letters from any friends: Take the friends and write to them informing them of your relatives passing.

Letters and articles from the deceased: By reading these may bring comfort to you.

Bills and receipts: Contact all creditors and all three credit bureaus to inform them to freeze new charges.

Stocks and bonds: These documents could be tucked away in some hidden places.

Sensitive documents: If you find sensitive documents that are still applicable it’s a good idea to place them into a safe place of your own and if the documents are out of date it would be a good idea to shred them.

In our case since my father didn’t leave a will it was a little complicated as I said digging our way out of a hole with a spoon. The main ingredient of this was to get the house in order and tie up the loose ends. Pennsylvania, which is our state has a law called the ” Intestate Succession” which basically makes it by law that all assets and property go to the relatives ” Children or Spouse if they are did alive.

Which Assets Pass by Intestate Succession:

The only assets that are in your will are passed thru by Intestate Succession laws. Usually this includes the assets that you own in your name.

Many assets and valuables don;t go thru the will and will not be affect by Intestate succession laws:

Here are some items that are not effected.

* All property that has and was transferred to a living trust.

* Life insurance payments

* Funds in your retirement account or an IRA (401k).

* Securities held in a-on-death-account

* A payable on death account

* Property that you own or in joint tenancy with someone else.

The above will pass to the surviving relative or someone in your will whether you have a will or not.

In most cases where a relative had died in the house and there are a lot of items to be sorted out and decide whom gets what as in my case with my sister it’s best to sit down and decide that cordially at a family meeting and anything that you wish to sell you should either sell or have an auction especially with big ticket items are recommended for an auction.

What about any remaining bills and the mortgage:

Contact the mortgage company or bank and inform them of the death and try to come to an agreement with the bank or mortgage company if you decide to sell the property. Pay off all invoices and bills that remain. If you don’t get any cooperation with the bank or mortgage company then find and hire an attorney.

What about big items that remain and you want to keep:

If you find yourself desiring to keep some big items from the estate and you need to transport them it’s recommended that you hire the best moving company .

By hiring a moving company you can save your back and time avoiding to rent a truck and the equipment to do the task.

Laws in Pennsylvania limits how much a landlord can charge for your security deposit as it’s basically (two months rent for the first year of renting and one month’s rent during subsequent years that follow and when it must be returned within a period of 30 days after you the tenant have moved out. What to plan to do before you move into the new house.

By |2022-06-10T17:19:12-04:00November 30, 2017|Resources & Tips|

It’s exciting and for some of us a once in a lifetime experience to move into a new home that was especially built for you and your family. If you have kids this could be a new school system for them to attend along with a new job location for you as well. The main thing is that you are the first to occupy that new if it is new construction. There are a few things that are a good idea to plan to do in advance of your movers that will be moving you into that new home.

The First, at least two days before your movers arrive to move you in give that new home a real good cleaning and if it’s a new construction it would be a great idea to clean it very carefully.

The cleaning of all wood floors should be dry moped and then cleaned with a product such as Murphy’s Wood soap oil as this will remove and dust or spills that might be left after the previous owners or the construction workers.

All rugs I would recommend using a steam vac or rug cleaning machine with a product that will clean the rugs and remove and debris that might be left in the rug

Clean and wipe down all bathrooms and tile floors. It’s a good idea to clean your glass especially if you are moving into a new construction house and I would recommend using vinegar and water into a spray bottle and then wiping the glass clean with newspapers as this will eliminate any streaks that may occur.

Second, After your new residence is cleaned it’s a great idea to prepare for the movers by purchasing from your local hardware store Brown painter’s paper in which comes in large rolls and laying it down on your foyer entrances ad over your clean rugs and stairs. When laying this down secure to the floor with a product called Frog Green tape as by taking these steps you will make sure that your house will remain clean and when the move is completed you can simply lift up the tape and paper and toss it into your trash or save it for another project if you like.

Third, One further thing to prepare for the movers and to keep your new home clean always make sure that you have a mat outside the door way into your home where the movers coming into your home can wipe there feet if needed.

Fourth, To keep your house clean make sure you label each tote or box as to where which room they go to and then place a label outside each room in the house as to say bedroom one, bedroom two, master bedroom, nursery, den, and so on as by doing this step it will reduce the number of traffic in your new home and will help you keep it clean.

Save up to 25% or more packing this moving way.

By |2022-06-10T17:19:57-04:00November 30, 2017|Resources & Tips|

Preparing for your moving day is essential so that the move goes smooth and that you don’t end up spending more time and money then you really have to. Storing your items can be another headache if you don’t have your items packed in the strongest and best method to store your items whether it be for short term or a long term storage. Most families and people tend to think well I’ll just get boxes and pack all my items in boxes and that will end that problem.

But, in reality if you are going to store your items in a basement or garage and must stack them you will be better off purchasing Plastic totes and yes, I said totes and why? Totes in the long run can be stacked and your items are in a secure strong container that don’t crush like cardboard does and when you stack them they can be stack in uniform because they lock in place. The cost of plastic totes are usually 25% at least cheaper then cardboard boxes and they sell at stores in a bundle of Five for Ten Dollars and the other benefit is that you don’t need to shell out any extra for sealing tape because the totes lids lock down into the container. We here always tell our clients when packing themselves to use plastic totes and in the above I’ve answered why this packing method is the better way to go. Finally the plastic totes are completely water proof as compared to cardboard in which if it does get wet the items inside will get wet as well. The choice is yours as a consumer and we all are looking for that bargain that will save us time and money and to get the best bang for our buck.

Cheap effective way to clean your residence.

Cheap effective ways to clean your residence before or after a move.

Being a renter all of my adult years and on a budget I’m like other people looking for ways to clean my apartment for a much lower cost but, still keeping the high cleaning standards without getting fleeced at the grocery store. I recently moved for the third time to another apartment and heard this wonderful cleaning tip from a professional janitorial cleaner of how to clean my bath tub and toilet, sink for a third of the cost.

To my amazement I was told to purchase Vinegar apple cider in which costs about Four Bucks a bottle and that’s all I needed & so I bought a bottle and cleaned my whole entire tile floors, bathroom with this stuff and to my surprise it did a better job then cleanser, Windex, Mr. Clean combined. This stuff left a great pleasant smell in my old apartment so when my old landlord came to inspect it for me to get my deposit back I know it would pass and I would not have any issues with my landlord. This Vinegar Apple Cider is also a lot safer especially around young children and pets without any of the harmful chemicals and for only Four Bucks how can you go wrong?

So my advice when you are done with the moving company moving you out of your old place buy a bottle of Vinegar Apple Cider and go cleaning.

Suggestions to help you prepare for your moving day

By |2023-04-11T16:52:14-04:00March 9, 2017|Resources & Tips|

While every move is unique, there is some tried and true piece of expert advice that can apply to just about every move- and the experts at Eastern Connection Movers have it down pat since 1987, we have helped tens of thousand of customers move their household stuff across the country and locally as well. Along the way, we have compiled an arsenal of expert advice from professionals who have done this for decades designed to help make your move with us easy and pleasant, organized and affordable.

Get  Organized

Even if organization isn’t your “thing,”  there is some really simple things you can do to make moving much easier.

Gathering moving quotes.    The real best moving advice from our experts is to start gathering moving quotations as soon as you know that you are moving. Click here for your free online quote for your move and send us with your request in your email the following information in order to receive your quote such as.

  • If your move is a local or long distance moving services requested.
  • An exact itemized list of what is to be moved.
  • The desired date of the move.
  • If you should need any professional packing services needed and if so, describe what you would like our experts to pack for you.
  • Are there any stairs or an elevator and if so, what floor(s).
  •  The pickup location and your destination location and include zip codes.
  • Your full name and the best contact phone number for us to call you & the best time for our customer care team to call you.
  • Any special services requested for your move like a piano, organ, car to be moved.

 Make a reservation.

if possible, we recommend reserving your moving date with us at least 10 days in advance for long distance moves & as soon as you        know for local moves so that we can place your move in our system for the best moving experience by our professionals.

We recommend printing a checklist for yourself.

Checklist are essential to moving because they help you keep track of everything detail in your move. Every move has a different type of checklist because each move is never the same details as  for example, John Doe moving from Philadelphia to Atlanta,         Georgia might have a detail in his move such as checking to make sure that his pets travel plans for a pet moving service are complete meanwhile, Tom Watkins, moving from Hatfield, PA to  Jenkintown, PA might not have to have in his checklist  pet movers because he is taking his pets in his car to his new place.  The Best advice is to make up your own checklist from scratch and therefore by doing this, you have your own list and not a basic one size fit all.

Order moving supplies.

We recommend that if you are doing your own self-packing that you order moving supplies like boxes, tape, inkless packing paper well in advance of your moving date. We sell only the best moving supplies that are professional grade at a discounted price. Give our customer service a call right now for your special discount on your moving supplies.

Need storage long term or short term secure storage?

Our services are designed to make your move seamless.

Answers to Finding the Right Mover

By |2022-06-10T17:26:34-04:00March 9, 2017|Resources & Tips|

So often I’m asked, how to go about finding the right moving company. There are so many ads for moving companies online especially those brokers whom seem to present themselves as a moving & storage company with their own employees with company-owned trucks but, after booking your move with them on moving day you sadly discover that the company you thought was on the up and up really are just a broker and you now are on the moving date that you must be out of your residence and have no choice but to use this other company whom you have not had any communication with until moving day. The really bad thing is that you have had no time to check out the company that you are forced to go with and you are full of questions.

In your search online you went thru a lot of web pages and probably I’ll assume had a boat load of calls from other moving inquiries that you submitted to web sites that say that after filling out the request for quotes your information will be submitted to six moving companies and come to find out like I mentioned you get a boat load of calls that are so overwhelming and this precisely my point there are online ads & sites that mask themselves as moving companies with their own equipment and employees and then there are certainly the ones that you can simply figure out that they are brokers when the say in the website that your information will be submitted to six companies for a quote to be sent to you or you will get a call from them.

My answer to finding the right mover for you is to avoid any of those sites that again state that your information will be submitted to six companies for your quotation & then to ask them if they have their own employees and equipment as then by their reply or checking about them online you will be able to come to your own decision. Brokers aren’t the way to go when you are moving your heirlooms or home furnishings as in most cases that broker isn’t local and then you really don’t know whom you or they have selected to move your household goods. When moving you want a moving company that is reputable and local and here are more answers for you.

I just gave you the bad news as to what can happen and now for the good news, Find a company that is local or is very reputable with things like being awarded the best mover by a publication in their area or they have a 5 star rating and good reviews by their customers and really show the expertise of the people they employ in which can be determined simply by making an appointment with a representative of the company to come to your residence and give you a price quotation for the move you are about to have done. You should always ask the estimator that comes to your residence if she or he has actually done the bull work by lifting, moving and packing and have they ever loaded a moving truck. Ask how many years have they been in the moving and storage business. If the answer is no then the best decision for you is to go onto the next estimator and rest assured you will find the right experienced company because experience starts with experience as anyone can walk around with a pencil in their hands with paper.

Moving companies with extended hours is the company to use & then a company that can meet your moving needs that is all done with in house employees like do you move antiques and what about vehicle moving as well but, of course that they can have a flexible schedule to work around your schedule.

Our expertise is household goods moving along with our experts that move pianos. antiques and packing with crating services with our mission to give each client a seamless move every time. For those whom want to learn more, they can simply go to https://mozermoving.com where they can learn about moving tips. great tutorials on packing and scheduling a move or they can call them in state at (484)461-8685 or from out of state (877)480-6683 or go to their Facebook page by clicking here at https://www.facebook.com/easternconnectionmovers

At Eastern Connection Movers, they have a goal to provide clients with a fair priced move that is a seamless move from a reputable moving and storage company.
